General Information

Whitney is an unincorporated town and a census-designated place in Clark County, Nevada. The town occupies a 6.8-square mile area, has a population of around 41,124 people, and its population density is approximately 6,125 residents per square mile.

History

In the 1910s, the town was actually a ranch that was purchased by Stowell E. Whitney. In 1931, the town of Whitney was established when the owner subdivided the ranch and then opened a post office.

In 1958, the town was renamed as East Las Vegas as the result of a town petition. In 1993, however, the name was changed back to Whitney.

Despite its high population density today, Whitney is a relatively young town. Before the 1970s, Whitney was a small community. Modern-day Whitney is vibrant that still enjoys an ongoing decent growth rate.
